Winter
On The Slopes

Snow 2_edited.jpg

An ever-evolving collection inspired by one of my all-time favourite pursuits.

I grew up skiing the steep peaks of New Zealand; clinked Champagne flutes in family-run cafes nestled in the French Alps, warmed up over Ramen in Niseko, Japan; dashed for the unexpected snow dumps in Australia, and most recently; traversed the challenging terrain in Tahoe, California, America.

The anticipation of overnight snowfall, making the first tracks, the anonymity underneath all that apparel, the joy of people-watching ordering hot chocolates, and without question, the well-earned après-ski.

Capturing this otherworldly environment on canvas, I take a multi media approach with thick layers of paint. In blue and white tones to express the dominance of the snow-covered landscape against a bright blue sky that goes on forever. Adding bright colours with energetic streaks representing rock faces, the sun hitting the slops and skiers with flashes of multicoloured apparel, slicing their way down the mountains.
